Do Ghosts Really Haunt Us? |

Do ghosts really exist? Melanie Wallwork went on a ghost hunt to a haunted Lancashire house with a team of experts to find out.
AS I arrived at Mains Hall I had rather mixed feelings about what I wanted to see. The journalist in me wanted to see ghouls and ghosts, maybe a zombie or two, but the real me wasn't so sure. Back in the newsroom, concern had been expressed about the possibility of me being satanized, and I certainly didn't want that. I drove down the long gravel driveway and through the gates of the Great Hall, where Adele and Roger Yeomans live with Josh, 15, and Beccy, 18. Mains Hall at Little Singleton, near Garstang, was owned by the staunchly Catholic family, the Heskeths, who lived there for more than 300 years. It is claimed to be haunted by the ghosts of monks and priests, cavaliers and roundheads, lords, ladies and children. The house, which is said to be a mediaeval longhouse dating back to the 1300s, has been home to Adele and Roger for three years. Although they bought it as a bed and breakfast 17 years ago before running it as a country house hotel. Adele was on hand to show me around the house, along with medium Angela Borrows and Jason Karl, co-presenter from Most Haunted on the cable station Living TV. Angela has been a medium for most of her life after having her first psychic experience as a young child. She has worked with various ghost investigation groups including The Ghost Research Foundation and has appeared on several television programmes demonstrating her skills. As we began our tour, Angela immediately began 'tuning in' and said the atmosphere in the hallway suddenly felt heady and heavy. She said she could smell a man with musty odour, whom she went on to identify as a cavalier. As we moved to the next room, Angela's mood distinctly changed.
